Following the industry walkthrough of CalArts’ legendary Halloween Party, please join us for a special screening of Tim Burton: Life in the Line.

Directed by Tara Wood, this docuseries' first episode is a love letter to CalArts’ creative influence, featuring CalArts alumni and visionary filmmaker Tim Burton (Film/Video 79), with insight from those who know him best. Wander through Burton’s brain: his films, his art, and the strange, beautiful influences that shaped a vision that brought the misfits into the mainstream and inspired generations.

This is an outdoor screening, so bring a picnic blanket and dress for the occasion. Costumes are encouraged, Burton-inspired or otherwise, and the best ones will compete for a prize. Come as your strangest self.

7:00 pm - Doors Open

7:30 pm - Discussion with Director Tara Wood

The CalArts Footprint Throughout LA

Cattern House

Cattern House is one of the five original homes built on Oaklawn Avenue in South Pasadena. Built in 1907 and designed by architects Dennis & Farwell, also known for The Magic Castle, Cattern House has a long association with the arts, hosting private performances by chorales and string quartets and treating guests to murals gracing the upstairs ceilings. Now it has been revitalized into a vibrant center for creativity and artistic expression. As CalArts’ newest performance and exhibition space, it joins the Institute’s growing presence in Los Angeles County alongside REDCAT and CalArts at the REEF.

CalArts at the Reef

CalArts at The Reef is a new extension of the Institute, giving CalArts students and recent graduates a dedicated presence in Downtown Los Angeles. Housed within The Reef, an 860,000 square-foot building and creative hub at the corner of Broadway and Washington, CalArts’ presence significantly expands its footprint in LA proper. The development of this space was made possible through the generous support of an anonymous individual donor.

REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater)

REDCAT, CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, is a dynamic multidisciplinary venue for visual, performing, and media arts located within Frank Gehry's iconic complex that includes the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Since opening in 2003, REDCAT has presented groundbreaking performances, exhibitions, screenings, and public programs that showcase adventurous artists and new ideas from Los Angeles and around the world.

As CalArts' public-facing home in downtown Los Angeles, REDCAT extends the Institute's experimental spirit beyond campus. Designed by Frank Gehry as an adaptable, industrial-inspired creative space, it serves as a professional laboratory where artists push boundaries, challenge conventions, and explore new intersections across disciplines. Situated in the heart of the city's cultural corridor, REDCAT connects CalArts' educational mission with the broader artistic community, fostering innovation, collaboration, and bold creative expression.
